Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has intensified collaboration with the Federal Government to ensure the timely completion of key federal road projects in the state, ahead of the peak rainy season. The projects include the 16.3-kilometre Aba–Owerri Road (NNPC Depot axis) and the 20.7-kilometre Achingali–Obizi–Umunwanwa Road, both of which have experienced prolonged delays.
To address the setbacks, Governor Otti met with the management of the construction firms handling the projects—Roudon Nigeria Limited and Boliv Nigeria Limited—led by their Group Chairman, Chief Tony Chukwu. The meeting was aimed at understanding the reasons for the stalled work and identifying solutions.
During the engagement, the companies, represented by their Group Managing Director, C.N.C. Nwachukwu, outlined challenges affecting project execution. In response, Otti assured the contractors of the state government’s readiness to engage the Federal Ministry of Works alongside them to resolve the issues hindering progress.
The governor stressed the urgency of restoring work on the affected roads, particularly the Umunwanwa–Ubakala section, which has become largely impassable and a major source of hardship for road users. While discussions with federal authorities are ongoing to facilitate contractors’ full return to site, Otti directed that immediate intervention begin on the most critical sections to ease traffic difficulties and improve safety.
The move underscores the Abia State Government’s commitment to infrastructure development and intergovernmental cooperation to improve connectivity and economic activity.
