Strike: FCTA Workers Resume Work in Compliance with Court Order

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

Workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Wednesday resumed their duty posts in compliance with the recent Industrial Court order to suspend the ongoing strike.

On Tuesday, the National Industrial Court (NIC ) presided over by Justice E. D. Subilim, had directed the immediate suspension of the strike action embarked upon by workers under the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) to allow room for dialogue.

In response to the ruling, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike called on workers to promptly return to their duty posts, emphasizing that while the right to protest is allowed in a democracy, court orders must be obeyed.

In full compliance, the Acting Head of the Civil Service of the FCT, Mrs. Nancy Sabanti, issued a circular directing all Secretariats, Departments, and Agencies (SDAs) to reopen offices and strictly maintain staff attendance registers.

The circular, dated January 27, 2026, instructed Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Departments, Parastatals, and Agencies to enforce immediate resumption of duties by staff while reiterating the administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers.

Daybreak reports that a visit to the FCTA Secretariat and several affiliated MDAs on Wednesday confirmed a significant level of compliance, as workers were seen within office premises carrying out their normal official responsibilities, comfirming a return to full administrative activities in the territory.
