Tinubu congratulates Pate, Makanju on inclusion in Devex Power 50 list

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, and Anna Adeola Makanju, Vice President for Global Impact at OpenAI, on their inclusion in the Devex Power 50 List for 2026.

The list, published annually by Devex, recognises 50 individuals, organisations and initiatives shaping the future of global development. Pate and Makanju were named among this year’s honourees alongside other global figures, including Ghanaian President John Mahama.

In a statement on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the recognition as well deserved, saying it reflects Nigeria’s depth of talent at home and in the diaspora.

According to the statement, the president said the nominations had made Nigeria proud and underscored the country’s contributions to global development efforts.

Devex cited Pate’s role as a leading advocate for improved healthcare access in Nigeria and across Africa, with a focus on strengthening domestic production of health commodities. It also highlighted his broader engagement in efforts to reform aspects of the global health architecture.

Makanju was recognised for her influence at the intersection of technology and development. At OpenAI, she oversees global engagement with governments on artificial intelligence deployment, policy and governance, and has been involved in shaping early frameworks for AI regulation and public safety.

Tinubu urged both officials to continue striving for excellence and expanding their impact in their respective fields.
