Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gathered in large numbers at the party’s state congress in Delta State, where Dr. Peter Adogbejiri Mrakpor (SAN) emerged as the new state chairman and pledged to rebuild the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The congress, held over the weekend under tight security with a “no ticket, no entry” policy, attracted party members and supporters from across the state. The turnout, according to attendees and observers, reflected renewed interest in the party’s activities.
Mrakpor’s emergence comes at a time when the PDP in Delta State is widely seen as undergoing internal restructuring following the 2023 general elections. Addressing party members at the congress, Mrakpor said his leadership would focus on rebuilding the party’s structures and reconnecting with grassroots supporters.
“We must move beyond internal challenges and begin the process of strengthening our structures while reconnecting with the people,” he said. Mrakpor also outlined areas he believes require greater attention in the state, including youth unemployment, human capital development, electricity supply and agricultural growth.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria said the party intends to focus on policy-driven engagement, economic inclusion and technological advancement as part of efforts to reposition the PDP for future political contests. Party supporters at the venue expressed optimism that the new leadership could help revitalise the PDP’s political structure in Delta State as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 elections.
