The event featured a road walk and a symposium themed “Give to Gain: Empowering Women Journalists for Impact.” The symposium took place at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre on Azikoro Road, Ekeki.

In its resolutions, NAWOJ stated that appointing more women to leadership roles would help promote balanced storytelling and contribute to broader transformation within the media industry. The association also expressed appreciation to media owners and employers for providing opportunities that enable women journalists to practise their profession and earn a livelihood.

NAWOJ highlighted several challenges faced by women in journalism, including workplace bias, abuse, safety concerns and limited access to leadership opportunities. The group called for stronger efforts to address these issues. The association further encouraged women journalists to pursue professional development through training, multimedia skills, and the adoption of emerging technologies.

NAWOJ also emphasised the importance of networking, mentorship and mental health support for women in the profession. The Bayelsa chapter pledged to continue advocating for gender equality and greater inclusion of women in leadership positions across the state’s media sector.
