Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, Dr. David Emmanuel Ombugadu, says his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was a strategic move aimed at advancing the interests of the people and supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
Ombugadu spoke during a meeting in Lafia with a women’s group known as Advocates for Justice, drawn from the 13 local government areas of Nasarawa State. The gathering brought together thousands of women who previously supported the PDP during the 2023 governorship election.
Addressing the group, Ombugadu said his years in the opposition had been instructive but that joining the ruling party would allow him to better serve the state. “My decision to join the APC is a strategic move made in the interest of our people,” he said, adding that his priority is to support the administration’s policies and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also disclosed plans to expand APC membership in Nasarawa State, saying his political structure aims to register more than 300,000 new members once the party’s registration portal reopens.Ombugadu further indicated his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election under the APC platform and urged supporters to join him in the party.
Earlier, the chairman of the group, James Alu, said the gathering demonstrated the women’s continued support for Ombugadu’s political direction. The group’s women leader, Hanatu John, also pledged to mobilise support for Ombugadu and President Tinubu in future elections.
