Plateau State Government has strongly condemned the barbaric ambush by bandits that claimed the lives of no fewer than 20 security personnel and local vigilantes in the Garga axis of Kanam Local Government Area, vowing intensified crackdown to restore lasting peace in the state.
In a press release issued on Sunday and signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the administration of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang expressed deep concern over the Friday mayhem that sparked panic in Wanka, Kyaram, Gyambau, and surrounding communities.
The government paid solemn tribute to the fallen heroes, stating: “The Government commends the bravery and sacrifice of security personnel and local vigilantes who lost their lives in the course of confronting the attackers.”
“Their courage and dedication in the face of danger remain a testament to their commitment to the safety of Plateau communities.”
“Governor Mutfwang’s “Time is Now” administration reaffirmed its unwavering resolve to defend lives and property across the state.”
The statement appealed to residents of the affected areas and the general public to remain calm, stay vigilant, and support security forces by providing timely and reliable intelligence to help eliminate the threat and achieve enduring peace.
It also disclosed ongoing consultations with traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders in Kanam to mobilise grassroots support for sustained security operations.
While pledging decisive and robust measures to bolster security in the general area, the government warned sternly against spreading unverified rumours or information that could heighten fear, create tension, or undermine ongoing efforts.”
The Plateau State Government reassures the people of Kanam and the entire state that it remains fully committed to taking all necessary measures to ensure the protection of lives, the safety of communities, and the preservation of peace across Plateau State,” the release declared.
