Bayelsa Deputy Governor Urges New APC Members to Back Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Peter Akpe, has urged new members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other party candidates in the 2027 general elections.

Akpe made the call while receiving defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Government House in Yenagoa. The defectors were led by James Agari, a former PDP state secretary, alongside Richard Perekeme, a former PDP legal adviser, and Ebipere Napoleon, a councillor from Sagbama Local Government Area.

Speaking at the event, Akpe dismissed allegations that the defections were influenced by coercion or financial inducement, stating that the APC welcomes members who join voluntarily. “Our priority is to work together to deliver President Tinubu and all APC candidates,” he said, urging the new members to strengthen the party’s grassroots structure and promote unity.

Also speaking, APC senatorial vice chairman (West), Akuakwa B. Akuakwa, called for cooperation among party members ahead of upcoming elections. On behalf of the defectors, Agari said their decision was based on internal developments within the PDP and a desire to align with the state’s current political direction. He added that the group intends to work with the APC leadership to support governance and political activities in the state.
