The Commissioner for Education in Bayelsa State, Gentle Emelah, has inspected the ongoing construction of Government Technical College in Oporoma, headquarters of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
The visit was aimed at assessing the pace of work and ensuring the project aligns with the state government’s education development plans. Speaking during the inspection, Emelah expressed satisfaction with the progress of construction, noting that several structures have reached the roofing stage.
He commended the contractors for the quality of work delivered so far and urged other contractors handling government projects to accelerate execution to meet timelines. “This level of progress is encouraging. Contractors handling other projects must step up, as delays will not be tolerated,” he said. The commissioner described the project as a significant step toward expanding access to technical education in the state.
He also acknowledged the administration of Governor Douye Diri for prioritising infrastructure and education development across communities.According to him, the technical college is expected to equip young people with practical skills that will improve employment opportunities and support economic growth.
