Nigerian singer Chike has revealed personal relationship advice he received from his mother, urging men to choose partners who are financially independent and productive.
Speaking in a recent interview, the music star said his mother consistently warned him against settling down with a woman who is not actively working or contributing meaningfully to her environment.
According to Chike, his mother stressed that love alone should not determine relationship choices, noting that a partner should already have a source of livelihood or purpose.
He explained that entering a relationship with someone who lacks productivity could place additional financial and emotional burdens on the man, especially if the person also supports extended family members.
The singer added that true partnership should involve mutual contribution and value, rather than one-sided responsibility.
Chike’s remarks have since sparked conversations on social media about financial independence, gender roles, and expectations in modern relationships.
