FCT Administration Targets May Completion for Key Judicial Infrastructure Projects—Wike

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike has said that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration is targeting May 2026 for the completion and delivery of several critical projects, including judicial and infrastructure projects in Abuja, as part of activities to mark President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s third year in office.

Wike disclosed this after inspecting ongoing projects across the territory while expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work by contractors.

According to him, the Court of Appeal complex located in Dakibiyu is at an advanced stage and is expected to be handed over by May, noting that the project could feature prominently during the anniversary celebrations of the current administration.

The minister also inspected residential quarters for judicial officers, including the FCT High Court judges’ quarters comprising over 20 duplexes, as well as magistrates’ quarters.

He mentioned an earlier inspection of 10 duplexes at the Federal High Court quarters, highlighting the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of judicial officers.

Wike also emphasized plans to enhance security within the judges’ quarters by taking over adjoining developed lands and restricting access to only authorized residents.

According to him, to achieve these perimeter adjustments, including the relocation of parts of the industrial layout, would be undertaken.

These housing projects are also expected to be completed by the end of May, he said.

However, residences designated for top judicial officers—including the Chief Judge of the FCT, the President of the Court of Appeal, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, and the President of the National Industrial Court—are scheduled for completion by October 2026, the minister added.

Speaking on infrastructure, Wike highlighted ongoing work at the Abuja City Gate, describing it as a major facelift aimed at creating a stronger visual identity for the nation’s capital.

The remodeled City Gate will feature a water fountain symbolizing the 36 states and the FCT, alongside recreational spaces for residents and visitors, he explained.

He revealed that the project was inspired by the First Lady, whose vision was to transform the city’s entry point into a befitting national landmark.

The minister expressed satisfaction with the contractors, particularly Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, noting that the quality of work meets expectations and aligns with the administration’s deadlines.
