Renowned basketball promoter Igoche Mark is exploring a partnership with Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) to increase scholarship opportunities for student-athletes. Mark made the proposal during a courtesy visit to the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Adamu Ahmed, where discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between education and sports development.
He commended ABU for its existing support for basketball players, noting that the institution has set a standard that other universities are beginning to follow, including Nile University. Mark said expanding scholarship access would help young athletes secure their future through education while pursuing sports careers.
Ahmed welcomed the initiative and acknowledged Mark’s contributions to basketball development in Nigeria. He expressed the university’s readiness to support programmes that promote talent development and academic advancement.The vice-chancellor also emphasised the need for collaboration among stakeholders to grow basketball as both a sport and an economic sector.
The proposed partnership aims to build on ABU’s current initiatives by increasing the number of basketball scholarships and supporting long-term development plans, including efforts linked to the vision of establishing a basketball academy at the institution.
