Kogi Governor Calls for Objective Journalism to Strengthen Good Governance

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has urged journalists in Kogi State to uphold objectivity and professional ethics, saying responsible reporting is essential to improving governance and accountability.

The governor made the call in Lokoja at the grand finale of the 2026 Press Week of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), which also featured an award ceremony and fundraising event. He was represented by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo. According to Ododo, the state requires a media landscape that “has the courage to point out shortcomings” while contributing to solutions.

He commended journalists for projecting the state nationally and internationally and encouraged them to highlight investment opportunities in Kogi.On security, the governor said his administration would continue to invest in proactive measures to address crime and improve safety across the state.He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting national development efforts.

In his remarks, Chairman of the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel in Kogi, Segun Salami, praised journalists for their professionalism and commitment to balanced reporting. He called on political actors and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure fairness in the electoral process.
