The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has begun screening aspirants for its upcoming national convention, with indications that several current national officers may retain their positions. Among those screened are Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who are seeking the offices of national chairman and national secretary respectively. Both emerged as sole candidates for their positions.
Other officials expected to retain their roles include Umar Bature, Ajibade Kamaldeen, Ambassador Ibrahim Bala, Prof. Ogunshe Adenike, and Jungudo Haruna Mohammed. The screening exercise took place in Wuse, Abuja, with party supporters in attendance.
Chairman of the screening subcommittee, Kingsley Chinda, said the emergence of unopposed candidates reflects confidence in their leadership. He added that all aspirants would still undergo document verification to ensure compliance with party requirements.
Chinda also said the committee remains committed to fairness, transparency and due process. The screening is expected to continue ahead of the convention scheduled for Sunday. Party officials said the process follows a recent Court of Appeal ruling that nullified the party’s 2025 convention held in Ibadan.
