Bandits Attack Kaduna Wedding, Kill 13 in Fresh Kagarko Assault

By Idibia Gabriel, Kaduna

Suspected bandits have killed at least 13 persons and abducted several others in a late-night attack on a wedding ceremony in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday at about 11:47 p.m., has raised fresh concerns over the deteriorating security situation in rural communities across the state.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived in large numbers, armed with sophisticated weapons, and opened fire on guests at the wedding venue, triggering panic as attendees fled for safety.

A resident, Shehu Bala, said several victims sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to the General Hospital in Kagarko, while those with critical conditions were referred to facilities in Kaduna for further treatment.

He added that the number of abducted persons remains unclear due to the chaotic nature of the attack.

A community leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the assailants operated for nearly an hour without resistance. The attackers were also reported to have looted shops, carting away food items, provisions and medical supplies.

Residents said the victims have since been buried, while efforts to establish contact with the abductors had yet to yield results as of the time of filing this report.

The attack forced many residents to flee into nearby bushes as gunfire echoed across the community.

A police source in Kagarko confirmed the incident, noting that security agencies are working to determine the exact number of abducted persons.

The spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Hassan Mansur, also confirmed the development and said a comprehensive report would be made available after preliminary investigations.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, alongside Senator Sani Musa, visited injured victims receiving treatment at the hospital in Kagarko.

The latest incident highlights ongoing security challenges in parts of Kaduna State, where several communities, including Janjala, have continued to face repeated attacks.

Residents also disclosed that at least 14 persons abducted in the area three weeks ago remain in captivity.
