Kogi Orders Evacuation of Students from University of Jos Over Security Concerns

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed the evacuation of Kogi State students from the University of Jos amid rising security concerns in Plateau State.

The decision follows disruptions to academic activities and reports of insecurity in parts of the state, prompting authorities to prioritise student safety. In a statement by his media aide, Ismaila Isah, the governor said the move is a precautionary measure to protect Kogi indigenes, particularly those living off-campus.

He added that the Special Adviser on Youth and Students Matters, Oladele Nihi, has been deployed to Jos to coordinate the evacuation alongside relevant agencies. According to the statement, arrangements have been made to transport the students safely back to Kogi State under security escort.

Ododo commended the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies working to restore calm in affected areas. He assured parents and guardians that the safety of students remains a priority and urged those affected to cooperate with officials overseeing the evacuation.Authorities said they will continue to monitor the situation and take further steps as necessary.
