Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have arrested two suspects and recovered weapons, including a fabricated AK-47 rifle, during a stop-and-search operation in Jos.The Joint Task Force said the operation, carried out on Friday across parts of Jos North and Jos South, targeted identified flashpoints and transit routes such as Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada, and the State Low-Cost Housing Estate.
In a statement signed by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the task force said items recovered included one fabricated AK-47 rifle, four rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a pump-action shotgun, and a cutlass.The operation is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and prevent further escalation of tensions in parts of Plateau State.
In a separate incident, troops responded to reports of sporadic gunfire at the Yelwa Cattle Market in Shendam. Suspected gunmen fled on sighting security personnel, while two residents found with gunshot wounds were evacuated to a hospital for treatment.The task force said it will maintain an increased security presence across the state and continue operations aimed at restoring normalcy in affected communities.
