Breaking…Court Remands OAU Sex For Mark Lecturer

Richard Akintade

A Federal High Court in Osun today remanded an Obafemi Awolowo University Lecturer, Prof. Richard Akindele, in Ilesa prison custody for allegedly demanding sex-for-mark from his Student, Monica Osagie.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Maurine Onyetenu , had ordered the remand of the embattled Professor due to the magnitude of the alleged offense committed.

The Independent Corrupt Practise Commission (ICPC) Prosecutor, Mr. Kehinde Adedoye, had told the court that the defendant Adedoye said the defendant committed the offense on Sept. 16, 2017 at Ile-Ife, by unlawfully demanding sexual benefit for marks from one Monica Osagie.

He said the offense contravened sections 8(1)(A) (2) and 18(d) of the corrupt practices and other related offenses Act 2000 and punishable under same sections.

The defendant pleaded not guilty on a four count-charge against him.

The Defense Counsel, Mr. Fola Omotoso, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

The ICPC Counsel, therefore, opposed the bail application by the defense counsel noting that the defendant had refused to appear to the commission since he was granted administrative bail.

Justice Onyetenu , however, ordered the defense counsel to file a formal bail application on the next date of adjournment. on Nov. 27 for definite hearing while the embattled lecturer be remanded in prison custody.
