EFCC Arrests Alleged Fake Football Agent Over N11m Fraud

By Francis Wilfred

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a suspect, Osagie Destiny Etinosa, over an alleged N11 million fraud linked to a football recruitment scheme. In a statement by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the commission said the suspect was apprehended by operatives of its Benin Zonal Directorate following intelligence gathering.

The EFCC alleged that Etinosa presented himself on Instagram as a football agent, offering to connect aspiring players with foreign clubs for trials and recruitment opportunities. In one case cited by the commission, the suspect allegedly collected N11 million from a victim, Samuel Beke Ohazuruike, with a promise to secure trials with clubs in Romania and Bulgaria. The EFCC said the trials did not materialise and efforts to recover the funds were unsuccessful.

The commission added that the suspect is expected to be arraigned in court. The EFCC reiterated its warning to the public to verify the credentials of agents and organisations before engaging in financial transactions.
