Gunmen Kill Eight in Fresh Attack on Plateau Community

Gunmen on Thursday night attacked Mbwelle village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing at least eight people and injuring others, local sources said.

The Chairman of Community Peace Observers in Bokkos, Kefas Mallai, confirmed the incident, stating that the attackers stormed the village around 11 p.m. and opened fire on residents. He said most of the victims were members of the same family, while three others sustained injuries and several persons were reported missing.

Mallai alleged that the attack lasted for hours before the assailants fled, adding that residents were considering protests over security concerns.

Youth leader in the area, Christopher Luka, also confirmed the killings, describing the incident as a devastating assault. He said the gunmen targeted a household, leaving eight people dead and others unaccounted for.

Efforts to obtain a response from the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of reporting, while a spokesperson for the joint military task force said he would revert later.

The latest attack comes amid recurring violence in Bokkos and neighbouring local government areas, including Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Jos South, where community groups have recently reported ambushes and killings.

Residents have called for increased security patrols and surveillance in affected communities.
