Borno to build resettlement city for IDPs

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno state has laid the foundation stone for the construction of 1,000 unit of houses. The aim is to establish a Resettlement City in Monguno town to carter for the over 89,000 Internally displaced persons, IDP, from the northern part of the state.

The estate is specifically designed to relocate IDPs from Marte, Abadam, Kukawa, Guzamala, Monguno and Nganzai LGAs. the project will cost the state government N5bn and is scheduled is to be completed in 6months.

Commissioner, Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Engineer Mustapha Gubio, said the housing estate is purposely to relocate the 89,000 IDPs presently occupying schools and other government premises in Monguno town. their relocation would enable the schools to resume normal activities.

According to him,the estate will comprise of schools, hospital, boreholes, police station, fire service station, and housing management office.

Other facilities are, a market, CJTF and vigilante hunters office, sports center, roads and drainages, electricity, water management office, among others.

Governor Zulum also laid the foundation stone for the construction of higher science and Islamic school. the school will accommodate the science students from the Government Science Secondary School and other schools within the catchment area. The school project will cost the government about N75 million and will be completed within 3 months.

In his remarks, Commissioner of Education, Hon. Bello Ayuba, said the Islamic School will fast track and expand Arabic and Islamic knowledge. He said Islamic studies in the area have great preference and priority. He lamented the closure of Arabic and Islamic schools in the area which had caused a serious setback. The new school will give the students ample opportunity to acquire Arabic and Islamic knowledge and addressing illiteracy. He said.

He also said that the.school will have all the necessary modern facilities including computer science laboratory which is the required standard for schools in the state.
