Nasarawa govt. partners traditional institution to promote girl-child education

Wamba (Nasarawa State), Feb. 20, 2020 The Nasarawa State government says it is partnering with the traditional institution in the state to encourage girl-child education and tackle violence against women.
Hajiya Halima Jabiru, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, stated this on Thursday during a courtesy call on the Orinye Rindre, Alhaji Lawal Nagogo in his palace in Wamba.
She said that educating the girl-child is like educating the whole nation, hence the need for the partnership.
According to the commissioner, the development of any society is depended on the quality of education that is given to the girl-child.
She told the traditional ruler that they were in the area to access the needs of women.
“We are here on an advocacy visit and an assessment need of women with a view to ascertaining their challenges for prompt action.
“We are focusing on the girl-child education and women empowerment in order to improve on the standard of living of the women. The state government is also determined to encouraging the girl-child education.
“It is in view of this that we are seeking the partnership of the traditional institution in order to encourage the girl-child education in the state.
“This will go a long in discouraging early marriage and other social vices in the society,’’ she said.
Halima appreciated the monarch for promoting peace and unity among his subjects.
The commissioner assured women of her ministry’s continued commitment to empowering them for self-reliance.
Responding, Nagogo commended the commissioner and her entourage for the visit, assuring them of his support in promoting the girl-child education in the area and the state at large.
