2 students bag 5 months imprisonment each for stealing 4 bags of cement

A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced two students to five months imprisonment each without an option of fine, for stealing 4 bags of cement valued at N6,200.

The convicts, Emmanuel Moses, 25 and Amos Yerima, 27, had admitted committing the offence.

They were docked on a two-count charge of joint act and theft.

The Magistrate, Umar Ibrahim, said the punishment would serve as deterrent to other would-be offenders.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that one Adamu Georg, reported the case on Feb. 28 at the Karji Police Station.

Leo said that the convicts conspired and stole 4 bags of cement from a building site belonging to the complainant at Karji.

The prosecutor said the convicts were arrested when they attempted to sell the cement.

He said the offences contravened the Sections 59 and 287 of the Penal Code Law of Kaduna State.
