Kaduna fire service records 221 fire incidents in 3 months

Mr Paul Aboi, the Director, Kaduna Fire Service, said the state recorded 221 fire incidents from January to March, 2020.

Aboi made the disclosure in an interview with our correspondents on Wedneday in Kaduna.

According to him, 26 persons lost their lives while 37 persons were injured from the incidents within the period.

He gave the breakdown of the fire outbreaks as 84 in January,  February 95 while March witnessed 42 cases.

He said that investigation showed that most of the fire incidents occurred as a result of negligence and improper installation of electrical appliances.

“We realised that most of the buildings in the state had no fire safety certification, hence one of the reasons for the outbreaks”.

The director revealed that the quick response of the fire service was able to save properties worth N3b from the  221 fire outbreaks.

“Our quick response to fire outbreak issues is dependent on how fast the office is notified.

“People should get our emergency numbers and call us during fire outbreaks.

“It is safer to call us than drive all the way to the office, “he said.

He advised residents to observe simple safety procedures to stem the tide of fire outbreaks in all parts of the state.

He called on the people to always switch off electrical appliances to save lives and property, and desist from plugging their chargeable lamps when not at home.

The Director warned the people against patronising unqualified  electricians when installing electrical appliances.

“When building, you need a certified electrician who will do a quality job to avoid fire incidents,” Aboi warned.
