Forum commends Edo Govt’s measures against spread of covid-19

A socio cultural group, the Concerned Edo Citizens Forum (CECF) has commended the Edo Government, on its measures against the spread of covid-19 in the state.

The group said this in a joint statement by Mr Roy Oribhabor convener, Edo Central, Mr Ambrose Ibude Secretary, Edo South and Mr Endurance Dirisu, deputy convener, Edo North in Benin on Wednesday.

It said it was impressed with measures put in place so far by the Edo Government, under the leadership of Gov Godwin Obaseki.

“As concerned citizens we are indeed proud for the mechanism employed by the government to arrest the killer virus rampaging and ravaging the entire World without any reliable cure and vaccines for now.

“But deliberate maintenance of basic hygiene principles will help therefore; we encourage all to practice it.

“It’s on record that, this deadly virus has no respect for status and positions, hence the virus is novel.

“We call on people to support the initiative of the Government through funds raising, as we are aware, that funds raising committee have been inaugurated to source for funds from well meaning individuals and groups from Edo extraction.

“We, therefore, key in into this process to rescue the system, and we encourage all sons and daughters to support this wonderful gesture of government,” the forum said.

It noted that this was a trying moment in the history of the nation and appeal for support from everyone.

It also, called on the Edo Government to provide palliative measures, adding that such palliatives must be distributed by men and women of noble character without political reasoning and affiliation.

The forum alleged that research and reports available indicate that the first sets of palliative measures were diverted by some powerful persons in political positions.

“Therefore to eschew further diverting tendencies in the second batch of the palliative resources as promised by Government, credible and concerned citizens must be involved in the distributions.”

The group said further that there was no better time than now to give  while noting that the level of fear had increased the poverty level.

“Those in the middle class are among the poorest of the poor hence, there was need to support and contribute accordingly to enable the State Government tackle the pandemic.

“As a body we will continue to reach out to the appropriate personalities to support and help,” it stated.
