Zamfara govt releases over 80% of N17.5bn education budget

Zamfara state government has so far released over eighty percent of this years’ N17.5bn naira appropriated for education sector to ensure quality education,  particularly for the girl-child.

Governor Bello Matawalle announced this when he receives the national chairperson  of High Level Women Advocates(HILWA) Madam Azuka Menkiti on a courtesy  call at government Gusau.   

He made the observation that in the contemporary times,  there is urgent need to inculcate social and moral ethics among the younger generation with a view to build a sound society of knowledge and patriotism.

Matawalle noted in strong terms that women position is socially and economically exalted as they are saddled with eminent responsibility of inculcating social and moral ethics in the younger ones especially in the area of education considering the critical role they play in building a sound society of knowledge and discipline.

He added that the women’s role is highly needed in other parts of the country in the education sector,  especially in promoting girl child education and commended HILWA on its initiative to liberate women through education and empowerment

He discloses that in recognition of the significance of Girl-child education in the state,  his administration  has achieved a significant improvement in girl child enrollment through the state Universal Basic Education Board.

He added that to further boost female education in the state,  married women, Widows and the divorced were always encouraged to further their education at the School for Continuing Education which has now started yielding positive results in the state.

Earlier in her address the HILWA National Chairperson Madam Azuka Menkiti said  UNICEF has recognised Zamfara Government’s efforts in addressing the worrying issue of out-of School children through the implementation of the Universal Basic Education Act which made the State enrollment derives more functional and commendable.

She further said her organisation has noted with appreciation the  State of emergency on education sector placed by Governor Matawalle which recorded progress in education.

Madam Azuka Menkiti however appeals to the governor to consider employing more qualified teachers and invest more on Pre-Primary education
