Former Governor Of Niger State Stresses The Importance Of Education

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

Speaking during the 22nd Golden Jubilee Convocation of Shehu Shagari College of Education Sokoto, the former Niger State Governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu stressed that value of education has no limit just as value of a good friendship is not often realised until it is lost.

Babangida further asserted that when a single man is educated it is just as saying one man is educated, but when a woman is educated it is saying a community is educated, stressing the need for parents to support girl child education to the maximum standards.

He this stage of human development is one channel that promotes development adding that the children of educated woman differ in both education and character.

Babangida who obtained most of his religious and western education in Sokoto said teaching method has deteriorated since the demolition of Teacher’s Colleges in Nigeria adding that one has to obtain grass root foundation of teaching before going forward to College of Education without which failure must be achieved or recorded.

In the present day methods, education has been bastardized and to retrieve such method, problems must be encountered which may cause more damage to what has actually been happening across the country.

He said governments should try by all means to bring back the dropouts as some of them left schools due to lack of supports either from parents, guardians or governments.

Unfortunately the emergence of Boko Haram, Bandits and Corona virus seriously hamper all channels of human development but is no excuse for asserting support to the less privileged youths in the state.

He said could be recalled that most of the bandits arraigned by security agents are not Nigerians, but for a layman he always consider Fulanis as those practicing all these immortal activities.

Talban Minna further stressed new challenges besetting education as the topic becomes imperative considering the many challenges that beset the education sector, which is exacerbated by the cancellation of Teachers Colleges, producing Grade Two Teachers as well as many other factors.
