THEN CAME A TIME…
Then came a time, when the wickedness of man could no longer be ignored. The corona virus pandemic which first showed up on the 11th month of the year of the Lord 2019, landed it claws on Wuhan, a city in Hubei in the southern part of China, the most populous Asian country in the world. While the rest of the world was still going about its daily businesses especially as it was that time of the year when the festival that marks the end of a successful economic year was anticipated, and most importantly, a time when the world and all its families were at top gear in the preparation of the celebrations of the birth anniversary of our Lord Jesus Christ the Saviour of the world. The pandemic kept brewing in wuhan, everyone thought it was one of the normal numerous Asian flus such as sars, mers or even other species of covid. Surely, the rest of the world went about their businesses. A month passed by, two months passed and by the third month, the narrative began to change as at least 180 countries and regions around the world went down in the business of fighting to contain the spread of the deadly plague called Covid-19.
Different countries declared state of emergencies after it became obvious that the scourge was not relenting and that it was indeed seriously aiming at levelling human existence and crumbling institutions and the world economy.
Suddenly, the world is challenged in a way it never anticipated. At first, it looked like a joke, those who at that time had not experienced it first hand laughed and claimed that those going through it were only playing pranks they best know how, ( Iran’s reaction to the news of the pandemic) in a bid to dominate, suppress and control others as they used to, by using the news of the new Covid-19 as a tool of terror and suppression, little did they know that covid19 was no respecter of name, country, boundary, wealth, fame, skin colour, infrastructure, science, technology and even intellect.
Gradually, it started dawning on the inhabitants of the earth that there was an undeclared war, that came creepping from the dark, larking at anyone and everyone and man had to shutdown not only to the outside world but even to himself.
The era of the shutdown began, social distancing was enforced, to slow down the space of the spread of this wicked pandemic which was formally declared by WHO on the 11th day of march 2020.
So, the struggle to stay alive continued, with everyone trying to put in place measures perceived as palliative to enable the survival of a deadly transition.
Once again, as common with human existences, social injustice which rose in different shades and patterns stood in the way of help for those who truly needed it. Unusual Political theories and the new world order conspiracies boomed in full strength through different videos on social media platforms, as panic engulfed the whole human race and fear became the new commander-in-chief.
As time went by, the Corona Virus began to loosen it’s grip as the fear of the virus was in no time replaced by the hunger virus which could no longer be endured by the people as they had no means to feed themselves and families. As a result, there were events of mass protest in different parts of the world where human beings had to violet the “STAY HOME” order in other to save their helpless families from the impending danger of death which was bound by hunger.
