Akwa Ibom APC governorship candidate Mr. Nsima Ekere has called for the cancellation of the Governorship and state Assembly polls polls in the state.
Ekere this known shortly after he exercised his civic right at Edemeya ward 1, unit 004, Ikot Abasi LGA of the state alleged that there were reports of violence in many parts of the state
The former NDDC boss who also lamented late arrival of election materials in his unit also appeal to INEC to extend period of voting in areas where materials arrived late .
“INEC should cancel election process anywhere there is violence or hijacking of materials. However, there is peace generally but it’s unfortunate that materials arrived here late. INEC should make up for the delay by extending voting time anywhere we have such delays”
Ekere while talking with journalists said he is hopeful of victory.
Meanwhile Governor Udom Emmanuel and Wife Martha , at exactly 9.23 am, carried out their civic responsibilities as they cast votes in the Gubernatorial and House of Assembly Elections at Town Hall, Awa 1, (Polling Unit Code 03-24-001) , NNA Local Government Area.
Speaking shortly after casting his vote, Mr Emmanuel commended the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, for improvement in the accreditation process and expressed optimism that the experience would be replicated in other units across the state.
In the meantime, Senator Elect for Eket senatorial district Mrs Akon Eyakanyi has lauded INEC for massive logistics improvement in today’s state elections.
Ayekanyi told newsmen after casting her votes at Oron Ward 9 unit 01 that materials arrived earlier in today’s elections compared to last month’s national polls
The former Lands and Housing Minister who regretted minor skirmishes in some parts of the Senatorial district however expressed confidence of the success of the PDP in all elections in the area.
“PDP is on ground here and today’s elections will prove to people that Oron is PDP. We are confident of victory for all our candidates especially Governor Udom Emmanuel.” She said.
Meanwhile chairman of Etim Ekpo LGA Mr Udeme Eduo , sustained severe injuries after thugs alleged to be working for a House of Representative member Hon Emmanuel Ekon, beat him up at Iwuken junction, while escorting elections materials to his ward, Government Primary school, Udiana Emem.
