Gov Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa has reiterated his commitment to continuous prioritisation of the training and welfare of People Living with Disability (PLWDs) in the state.
Gov Sule said this at a One Day Special Mentoring and Life Enhancement training for the joint National Association of PLWDs wing Nasarawa State Chapter on Friday in Lafia.
Gov Sule who was represented by his Special Assistant on social Media and disability, Mr Hamza Mamma said government was committed to the empowerment and training of people living with disability to inprove the standard of their living.
He added that the state government under the leadership of of Gov Sule has given priority to the welfare and employment of the people living with disability in the state.
On her part, Hajiya Fatu Sabo, Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, advised PLWDs to take advantage of government available technical schools to acquire skills to better their lives.
The commissioner who was represented by the director of special education, Mr Madaki Ibrahim, advised them to shun begging and embrace training in various skills to be self – reliant.
“The state government does not want you people to take to the street to beg that is why it makes provision for various skills acquisition Centres, we have technical schools in Asakio, Mada Station among others.
Mr Umar Dahiru, Chairman of Youths with Special need in Nasarawa State, said the mentoring and enhancement training for youths with special need in Nasarawa State was aimed at empowering them to be self – reliant and to discourage them from begging.
He commended gov Sule for prioritising the training and welfare of the PLWDs in the state, while expressing readiness of the Association to support him to succeed.
