NASS: Aides launch protest against non payment of salary arrears

By Doris Ferdinand

Legislative Aides of the National Assembly have launched an aggresive protest to press home their demands of Salary Arrears.

This was contained in a joint press statement by the affected aides on Tuesday noting the act of impunity that have been perpetrated by the national assembly management against Legislative Aides of the 9th Assembly.

They said, despite express legislative resolution mandating the Clerk to the National Assembly-CNA to ensure the payment of the long overdue entitlement, the chief accounting officer of the national assembly has chosen to hold Honourable members and by extension the whole institution to ransom which had created sharp contention between the two parties.

“The continued refusal of the CNA to pay about 2,500 Aides their 2019 salary arrears has created a sharp division between aides on one hand and the management on the other.”

They further said they will employ every resources at their disposal to drive home their plights.

“Let it be on record that having exhausted our patience and internal dispute resolution mechanism, we have resolved to pursue our grievances using all legitimate tools at our disposal.”
