Rep Yusuf: The problem of this country is not restructuring

By Doris Ferdinand

A Federal lawmaker representing Pankshin/ Kanam/Kanke, Hon Yusuf Adamu Gagdi in a press briefing with House of Representatives correspondents on Wednesday said the electorate should hold elected persons in governance accountable rather than clamouring for restructuring.

He said, “The problem of this country is not restructuring but about good governance.

“If the appointment of Mr. President is geared towards good governance, I don’t have problem with that.”

Yusuf said Nigerians have their share of blame by not speaking out before hand instead of blaming the lawmakers for approving the appointment of Isa Pantami.

He also said it is not within the power of National Assembly to remove him rather that of the president. “The prerogative of appointment and removal is vested only on Mr. President.”

On matters regarding the tenure of the new Acting Inspector General of Police, He said he expects the government to look for someone who can serve within the period stipulated by law assuring that the government will do the needful regarding the tenure of Inspector General of Police tenure.

Yusuf who noted that the government lacked competent economic team however praised the government for being able to navigate it’s way through the worst heat of recession stating that the present government came to power when the sale of crude oil was at it’s decline from $120-140 per barrel to $20 per barrel.

On Igbo Presidency, he said, “I don’t believe that the presidency must be zoned to you. It is about your capacity to convince the Nigerian people to vote for you. It is about the person, not the zone.”

He further adviced press men to manage information into gearing government to work and not antagonising the effort of the government.
