Bandits abduct 200 students from Islamiyya school

At least 200′ students have been reported abducted by bandits in Niger State today the latest in a long string of abductions.
This is coming on the heels of the release of the remaining 14 students of Greenfield University, Kaduna who where released yesterday after spending 40 days with their abductors and collecting a ransome of 180 million from parents of the students.

In the latest incident one person was reported shot dead while another was seriously wounded during the raid on an Islamic school in Tegina, Niger State.

“There was an abduction at an Islamic School in Tegina. But we are yet to ascertain the number of students abducted,” Mary Noel Berje, the state governor’s chief press secretary, reportedly told Reuters.

Although there are no confirmed report of the number of students abducted, credible sources who spoke to Daybreak said at least 200 students were taken.

Ahmed Matane, Secretary to the Niger State Government, said that simultaneous attacks were carried out as the kidnapping was taking place.

He said: “Yes, there was an attack at the Islamiyya school, but we do not yet have the exact number of students that were abducted.

“We are in touch with parents in the area to know those whose children were abducted.”

He noted that the the abducted students as from the Salihu Tanko Islamic school.
