The Police in Akwa Ibom is set to clampdown on unauthorized use of motorcycles in Uyo metropolis and has therefore put in place necessary security measures to arrest and prosecute persons found perpetuating the act.
This followed increasing and disturbing use of motorcycles in perpetuating criminal activities in Uyo and other parts of the state.
State Commissioner of Police, CP Zaki Ahmed, who made this known in a press statement in Uyo last weekend expressed concern that civilians and security personnels have continued to flout the state government law restricting the use of motorcycles within Uyo, the state capital.
The statement was endorsed by Superintendent of Police(SP)ODIKO MacDON, Command’s Public Relations Officer,(PPRO) and made available to newsmen.
“the CP is perplexed and miffed at the manner in which some persons including security agencies have continued to flout the law restricting the use of motorcycles within Uyo metropolis.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the law prohibiting the use of motorcycles within Uyo metropolis is still in force.”
The commissioner warned that the command would commence a massive enforcement of the law prohibiting the use of motorcycles within the metropolis from Monday, the 15th of April.
He further warned violators to desist forthwith, as those arrested would be prosecuted immediately in accordance with law.
