……as 1500 pass out in two weeks to improve manpower

The Commandant, Sokoto Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, Malam Abdul Abdullahi while fielding questions from journalists in his office said Federal government is to train about 5,000 staff to improve manpower problems across the country particularly States where there are series of porous routes connecting Nigeria with neighbouring countries.

He said with adequate manpower and mobility coupled with other social amenities, drug abuse would be minimized to the nearest minimum in this country.

“As our mission is to minimize illicit usage of drugs in Nigeria, our patrol teams are up to task with adequate facilities.

” What makes it easier is there are no areas where these weeds are grown, all illicit drugs are brought from outside and therefore looking for places where addicts gather. little information can lead us sellers and barons”, averred Abdul.

While discussing sensitization formalities, he said they cannot stop selling of some drugs in chemists as doctors prescribed medicines that addicts consumed for the sick persons as those of catarrh and several others adding that most of these intoxicants are consumed by the illiterates.

“The most important aspect of the Agency is to gather reliable information about the pocket dealers and sellers despite their quinine behaviour which would make there arrest easier”.

He further said the sensitization to be carried out would involve parents, guardians, sister agencies and other stakeholders of the drug abuse saying the Federal High Court has approved the burning of several tonnes of the illegal seized drugs only waiting for the head office to give its approval.
