PLSG Dismisses Report of Burnt Buses as Fake

By Ugar Ukandi ODEY, Jos

The Plateau State Government has called on members of the public to disregard a social media post which claims two luxurious buses with the caption “Plateau crises and genocide worsen” and conveying Igbos to the Eastern part of the country were set on fire with 156 passengers in them.

A statement issued in Jos and signed by the Director of Press to Governor Lalong, Simon Makut Macham indicates that the story is fake and should be disregarded.

He said “this is purely the handiwork of crises merchants and mischief makers who want to create panic and instigate violence and fear among the people”, explaining further that “for the avoidance of doubt, the security situation in Plateau State is very much under control as security personnel have been deployed to all parts of Jos to enforce the 24-hour curfew which is still in force in Jos North, as well as to ensure compliance with the dusk to dawn curfew in Jos South and Bassa LGAs”.

According to him, Governor Simon Lalong has directed the security agencies to track and fish out the originators of such fake information whose objective is to cause panic and crisis. He also advised the public to desist from sharing such fake information as it can lead to unpleasant consequences with unimaginable implications for the subsisting peace in the State.
