SSA on Tourism Congratulates Newly Elected Bayelsa NUJ Chairman, Describes Him as an Emotionally Intelligent Leader

The Director-General of the Ernest Ikoli Visitor Information Management Centre and Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Douye Diri on Tourism, Mr. Piriye Kiyaramo has congratulated the newly re-elected chairman of the Bayelsa State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Samuel Numonengi on his victory at the poll, describing him as an emotionally intelligent leader.

Speaking with newsmen at the Ernest Ikoli Press Centre Azikoro, Yenagoa at the end of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Triennial Delegates Conference 2021 Yenagoa, Mr Kiyaramo explained that emotional intelligence in leadership comprises empathy, social skills, self-awareness, self-regulation and self motivation to achieve set goals.

According to the Senior Special Assistant to the governor: “emotionally intelligent leaders are authentic leaders who are not afraid to let their vulnerabilities to be known”, adding that: “They readily acknowledge their flaws and own their mistakes”.

“Likewise, they are able to confront reality and talk straight with others in a manner that lends clarity without game playing or emotional blows”, he pointed out.

He described Comrade Numonengi as being a thoughtful, approachable, humble leader who admits his mistakes and know how to apologize to those who feel offended by his actions or inactions, saying that he understands the importance of balance, self-care and honours everyone’s uniqueness.

The governor’s aide was full of praises for the chairman of the council for his visionary leadership style, particularly, his passion for tourism, reiterating that the inauguration of the Travel Writers Corps and the Ernest Ikoli Visitor Information Management Centre speaks volumes of the passion Comrade Numonengi has for tourism development.

He commended Mr Nelson Agadi, the opponent to Numonengi in the election and for his show of maturity and diligence in the manner he conducted himself throughout the electioneering campaign period, saying that the Bayelsa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Triennial Delegates Conference 2021 Yenagoa, stands out as the best example to emulate by other state councils.
