Abdullahi Adamu Is Our Consensus Candidate For APC Chairman – Gov Sule

Must read

Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, has confirmed that the All Progressives Congress has chosen former governor, Abdullahi Adamu, as its consensus candidate for the position of party Chairman.

The APC national convention is scheduled to take place this Saturday.

Sule, who is the chairman of the media and publicity sub-committee for the convention, spoke on Friday at a news briefing in Abuja.

The governor said the party prefers the consensus method in electing officials because it creates a “rancour-free” exercise.

“We have mentioned over and over, as far as our party is concerned, we have all the three options in our constitution and the number one choice always in our party is consensus because it creates a rancour-free convention,” he said.

“The reason being that all stakeholders from the various zone will seat, agree and all aspirants will agree and sign off before you go into the convention. So our first choice is always consensus and we are still on that first choice.

“However, democracy demands, even the constitution demands that if that doesn’t work, we would go ahead and look at other options. But right now that remains our option — our number one.”

Fielding questions on the speculation that the party will adopt a unity list, Sule said it is not out of place if the APC settles for consensus candidates.

“If you are talking about consensus, you must have a unity list because that is the whole essence of consensus,” he said.

“If you are having consensus, you have people, aspirants, stakeholders and constituency that have agreed.

“In that case, that name automatically would be adopted. That is the meaning of the unity list. That is how unity list would be put together.”

While the party is opting for consensus candidates for the national working committee (NWC) positions, some members have disagreed over the method.
