Adamawa House Of Assembly Approves 550 Million For The Procurement Of 5000mt Of Fertilizer

Lawmakers at the Adamawa State House of Assembly have considered and approved the whopping #550million for the procurement of 5000 metric tons of NPK fertiliser for 2020 cropping season.

The approval followed the consideration and adoption of a letter sent to the hallowed chamber by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, and read at the special plenary session by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, today.

Likewise, the action of the Members was sequel to a motion to that effect by the Majority, Hon. Hammantukur Yetisuri(Jada Mbulo) and seconded by Hon. Muhammed Mutawali(Girei) respectively.

Earlier, Governor Fintiri told the Legislators that the state Executive Council at its 8th meeting held on the 24th June, 2020, considered and ratified the approval granted by the Governor to the Ministry of Agriculture for the procurement of the commodity.

He further informed the Honourable Members that the sum of#450million only out of #550million will be used for procurement of 5000metric tons of NPK 20:10:10 which will be paid through Irrevocable Standing Payment Order(ISPO).

He said that the remaining #100million will be used for logistics to the Ministry of Agriculture and urged the House to approve it.

Speaking while considering the letter, Hon. Abdullahi Umar Yapak(Verre) and Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno(Demsa) threw their weight behind the letter and said it should be approved to enable the Governor procure the commodity.

On his part, the Member representing Guyuk and the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Adwawa Donglock, applauded the leadership style of Governor Fintiri.

Hon. Adwawa specifically commended the Governor for making sure that their constituents are provided with the commodity to boost their agricultural activities, saying that fertiliser is what farmers needed at the moment.

The PDP lawmaker used the opportunity and made passionate appeal to the Ministry of Agriculture and Adamawa Agricultural Development Programme(AADP) to expidite effort towards making the fertiliser available as well as sold at a subsidize rate.

According to him, as member of the Committee on Agriculture, their Committee will closely monitor the Ministry towards making sure that the effort of whom he described as workaholic Governor is not sabotized.

Hon. Adwawa appealed to his colleagues to support the approval so as to boost food production in the state and taking into cognisance the impact of Covid-19 on the people at the grassroots.

After the consideration, the Member representing Verre constituency, Hon. Abdullahi Umar Yapak and Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno(Demsa) moved and seconded for the approval of the letter.

Thereafter, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, who presided over the sitting, directed the clerk to communicate the resolution of the Members to Governor Fintiri.
