Stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa North Senatorial District have endorsed former Environment Minister, Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi, as their preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election, calling for unity and fairness in the state’s political process.
The endorsement was announced during a Sallah visit to Abdullahi’s zonal office in Keffi, amid growing debate over zoning and power rotation in Nasarawa State. Speaking on behalf of the group, Isaac Lucky Yargwa said the decision followed consultations and reflects democratic practices such as consensus-building. He noted that the move aims to contribute to discussions on equity among the state’s three senatorial districts.
According to him, zoning has played a stabilising role in the state’s politics since 1999 and should continue to guide leadership decisions. He added that Nasarawa North, despite having fewer local government areas, remains a key stakeholder in the state. Responding, Abdullahi expressed appreciation for the endorsement but urged supporters to remain open to broader consultations and possible primary elections.
He cautioned against over-reliance on consensus, noting that differing interests within the party could lead to a competitive process. He also called for increased grassroots mobilisation across wards. The stakeholders appealed for calm among political actors and emphasised the need for issue-based engagement as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
