By Jabiru Hassan, Kano

Engr. Olufunsho Olusesan Adebiyi has officially taken over as the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Works from Dr. Yakubu Adams Kofarmata on Tuesday, 17th December 2024.

In his farewell address, the outgoing Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kofarmata, commended the Ministry’s management and staff for their harmonious collaboration during his tenure. He also appealed to the staff to extend the same level of cooperation to his successor to ensure continued success in the Ministry.

“I beg of you, extend the same hands of cooperation, support, and comradeship to him, and I am sure you will never regret it,” Kofarmata urged.

In his acceptance speech, Engr. Adebiyi praised his predecessor for his exemplary leadership and the valuable lessons learned by the Ministry’s staff under Kofarmata’s stewardship. He acknowledged Kofarmata’s constant support for the staff, ensuring that all tasks were completed diligently.

“I want to assure you that I will do my best, by the grace of God. The challenges before us are enormous, but I am confident that we will overcome them together,” Adebiyi said, emphasizing the importance of teamwork.

Adebiyi also highlighted one of the key challenges facing the Ministry — the issue of regional disparities in the allocation of projects. He noted that each region often accuses the Ministry of neglecting their area in favor of others, but assured that the matter would be handled amicably.

“We must strive toward delivering on the mandate of Mr. President to provide critical road infrastructure, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Adebiyi appealed.

Engr. Adebiyi was previously deployed from the State House to his new role, while Dr. Kofarmata will be reporting to the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) for further assignments.
