By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, has reiterated the Ministry’s committed to ensure the successful implementation of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in Budget and Planning.

This was contained in a press release signed by Mrs Immaobong Udoh on behalf of the Director of Information of the ministry and made available to Daybreak today.
Agba who was represented by his Special Assistant on Reforms and Special Duties, Mr Athanasius Ugbome, at the sensitization workshop on Standardization and Quality Assurance Framework, organized for staff of the Ministry in Abuja, stated that the SOP was designed to ensure that activities and procedures of all departments and units of the National Planning Arm of Federal Ministry of Finance were re-engineered effectively.

He recalled that the National Planning Ministry is the first to launch the SOP on the 19th of October 2020, and the third Federal MDA to commence full implementation.

He also expressed confidence that successful implementation of the SOP would be of benefit to the organization in the following areas: producing proper integration of functions in the departments and units, proper structuring for responsibility and accountability at all levels as well as reduce variation, promote quality and clear understanding of organizational and departmental activities which would further improve it’s status as an A-list ministry.

Speaking earlier in her opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Olusola Idowu, also represented by the Director of Administration of the Ministry, Mr. Lanre Adekanye, noted that the importance of standardization and quality assurance in addressing challenges of inefficiency, ineffectiveness and unreliable data in public service had received attention from both private and public Sectors.

She revealed that the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning in discharging its mandates of planning, monitoring & evaluation of projects and programs to promote economic growth in Nigeria, developed a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that would serve as a vital tool to promote suitable and consistent work ethics. “It will interest you to note that when the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is fully implemented, it shall reposition the Ministry to efficiently discharge its mandates for better result”

Director, Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement, Dr Anne Nzegwu, commended the management for the development of the SOP.
