A’Ibom Police nab boy who threatened schoolmates with pistol

The Police in Akwa Ibom has apprehended a 13 year old boy with a pistol, alleged to have used in threatening fellow pupils in St. Paul Primary School Ikot Ibiok in Eket Local Council of the state.

State Commissioner of Police, Mr Baba Azare told newsmen at a briefing in Uyo yesterday that operatives acted on credible information that the boy was going about with pistol in the school threatening to fire fellow pupils.

“The operatives of the Command immediately swung into action and arrested the suspect and recovered a locally made pistol. On interrogation the suspect confessed that he has been with the said gun since Nov. 2024.

“That he got the gun from a wardrobe in his father’s bedroom,” adding that the boy’s father had been arrested while investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the command also arrested two young girls, who conspired and stole a child sometimes in June 2024 at Obong Itam in Itu LGA and sold him for N200, 000 to someone in Cross River.

Azare said the suspects confessed to have used the proceeds to purchase refrigerator, television and fan while the items have been recovered from them and investigation ongoing to arrest the buyer.

“In another development, On Feb.1 at about 0800hr based on a complaint from two young girls that one woman attempted to trafficked them to Cross River for them to have affair with men and get pregnant in order to sell the babies and share the money.

“Operatives of the command swung into action and arrested One Gift Essien Tommy ‘f’ and One Peace Ekanem ‘f’. Ivestigation is ongoing.” He said.

Azare also said s 60 year old man was arrested on Feb.1 based on a raping from a woman in Afaha Offiong village in Nsit Ibom, after she sent her nine year old daughter on an errand on Jan. 31 at about 1600 hours.

“One Aniefiok Edem, (male) age 60 dragged the nine year old girl into the bush, removed her clothes and had carnal knowledge of her and later gave her N200.

The CP said that suspect would be charged to Court as soon as investigations are concluded.

He added that the command also apprehended other suspects, who involved in cult related activities, unlawful possession of fire and illicit drugs among others.

Azare said the Command will not relent in its effort to rid the State of all crimes and criminalities and urged residents to continue to support the police with useful information to succeed.
