ALGON-IMC clears air on illegal arrest of Staff

The Interim Management Committee of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria ALGON, leader Hon. Abdullahi Maje, on Monday cleared the air on the arrest of its staffs by the operatives of the DSS.

Recall the IMC had earlier in a media publication, reveal that 5 staffs of the association were arrested within the premises of the offices by officers of the Department of State Security.

However after an independent review and investigation, the IMC keen on transparency, had noticed that one staff in the person of Mr. Onuchukwu Leonard Papee who was on duty during the raid by the DSS, was the only person arrested.

Speaking on behalf of the IMC, Hon. Maje revealed that the IMC was not duly informed about the details of the arrest as at the time publications was made on the arrest, and as a leader of a transparent committee, it betroths on him to also clear the air on the issue.

He said: “My attention has been drawn, as the Interim Management Committee (IMC) President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), to the publication of 28th July 2021 issued by the Publicity Secretary of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of ALGON.

“As at press time, information available to me, was that five staffs of the association was arrested, but after a much more detailed Investigation, I discovered that it was only one of our staff that was arrested, by name Mr Onuchukwu Leonard Papee, who was at his duty post at ALGON secretariat, 6TH Floor, WAEC Building, No.10 Zambezi Crescent, Maitama, Abuja, F.C.T.

“ It might also interest the general public to note that Mr. Onuchukwu was duly cleared and released by the Department of State Security (DSS) and so far the committee will continue with its sole duty of lifting the association from the peephole its acclaimed predecessors had put it in through their numerous activities bothering on impersonation and subterfuge.” Maje added.
