Alia’s Chief Press Secretary Refutes Allegation of Insulting SGF Akume

By Isaac Kertyo, Makurdi

The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Benue State Governor, Mr. Tersoo Kula, has dismissed allegations circulating on social media that he insulted the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, by calling him a “madman.”

Addressing journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) House in Makurdi, Kula described the claims as baseless and a fabrication by mischief-makers. He challenged those behind the allegations to provide concrete evidence to substantiate their claims.

“You must have heard or read on social media about these allegations. Some people are spreading falsehood, claiming that I referred to Sen. Akume as a madman. I have never, and will never, insult elders. I challenge anyone to produce evidence—be it a write-up or audio recording—where I called him such a name,” Kula stated.

He reiterated his respect for the SGF, describing him as a father and leader, and dismissed the accusations as malicious. “Akume is my father, our leader, and our ‘oga.’ I have never used derogatory words against him,” Kula emphasized.

The CPS acknowledged the inevitability of mischief-makers in public life but maintained that his role as a spokesperson for Governor Hyacinth Alia is one he takes seriously, likening his relationship with the Governor to that of a son to a father.

“No human being will stand by and watch their father being insulted and dragged through the mud without responding. As far as this government is concerned, I am the son of Father Alia, and I will continue to speak on his behalf,” Kula said.

He also revealed that he had consulted his lawyers regarding the allegations and plans to take legal action against those responsible for spreading the falsehood. “I have briefed my lawyers, and legal action will soon be taken to serve as a deterrent to others,” he concluded.
