Must read

Chijioke Obinabo, the truck driver who was abducted by unidentified armed men on Sunday at Etiti Village, Enugwu-Agidi in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, has been released.

The victim, Chijioke Obinabo, was reportedly set free around 9 pm on Tuesday, as his abductors left him by the roadside in the community.

The father of the victim, Nze Obinabo, confirmed the development on Thursday, stating that his son is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

“After the gunmen broke into my compound and took my son away on Sunday night, we reported the matter at the Abagana Police Division, where a search response team was activated by the police. But on Tuesday around 9 pm, the kidnappers returned my son by themselves and dropped him by a roadside in the community,” Nze Obinabo explained.

He went on to share his son’s account of the abduction, detailing how he was tied to a chair and tortured with a burning tire. According to the victim, the kidnappers engaged in heated arguments and altercations on the phone with unidentified individuals, leading to his release.

The kidnappers allegedly mentioned that the people who contracted them were upset over not receiving their share of palliatives during the “Etiti Palliative Day” in the community. They claimed dissatisfaction with the distribution of meat from the cow slaughtered during the event.

Nze Obinabo expressed concern about his son’s critical condition, noting severe injuries, including stab wounds to the head and other parts of the body. He emphasized that the next three days would be crucial in determining his son’s survival.

While attempts to reach the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, for confirmation were unsuccessful, the family has reported the release to the police.
