Ahead of the primary election slated for February 17, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has given the green light to all 12 governorship aspirants.

These aspirants are competing for the party’s gubernatorial ticket in the forthcoming September 2024 governorship election.

The announcement of the aspirants’ clearance for the screening process came after an oath-taking event held on Thursday at the APC’s national headquarters in Abuja. Notably, the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, were absent from the occasion.

Led by Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, the seven-man National Gubernatorial Aspirants Screening Committee cleared all 12 aspirants during the screening exercise held from Thursday, February 8, to Friday, February 9, 2024.

According to Sulaiman Arugungu, the APC National Organising Secretary, the cleared aspirants will receive their Certificate of Screening clearance at the party’s secretariat on Saturday.

Among the aspirants granted clearance are prominent figures such as former Minister of State for National Economic Planning, Clem Agba; Senator Monday Okpebholo; former Deputy Governor Lucky Imasuen; and former APC governorship candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, among others.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Arugungu affirmed, “The All Progressives Congress (APC) Edo State Gubernatorial Aspirants’ Screening Committee has screened and cleared all the 12 gubernatorial aspirants that physically presented themselves to be screened by the party’s screening committee.”
