The Birnin-Gwari Vanguard for Security and Good Governance has expressed deep concern over the detention and arraignment of Nigerian Army officer, Captain M. Abubakar, for the alleged killing of a notorious terrorist informant, Dangwari, at Udawa along the Birnin-Gwari–Kaduna highway.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Ibrahim Abubakar Nagwari, the group described the development as troubling, stressing that Captain Abubakar, popularly known as “Singham,” is being prosecuted for carrying out the very mandate given to security forces.
The statement noted that credible testimonies from the District Head and Imam of Udawa confirmed Dangwari’s ties with terrorists. It further emphasized that Captain Abubakar had distinguished himself in liberating Udawa, Kuriga, and Birnin-Gwari from the grip of insurgents.
“This unfortunate situation risks dampening the morale of our gallant officers and men who continue to make immense sacrifices to secure our nation,” the group warned.
The Vanguard commended the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, for his commitment to ending banditry and terrorism across Northern Nigeria. It also welcomed his directive empowering security forces to eliminate terrorists and their collaborators without waiting for clearance from Abuja.
The group, however, urged the Defence Chief to urgently review Captain Abubakar’s case to ensure justice is served. It appealed to military authorities to avoid actions that could undermine the dedication and courage of personnel whose sacrifices remain critical to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
