Must read

Two employees of a KFC eatery located on 23 Road in Festac Town, Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos, have been arrested following the death of their 20-year-old colleague last Friday.

The deceased, Anita Chiwendu, passed away suddenly while reportedly hanging her clothes on a line. Her family and friends, who had gathered at the eatery, demanded the release of her body five days after her death.

Protesters, including family members, expressed their desire to see Anita’s corpse and voiced their dissatisfaction with the explanations provided by the company regarding the circumstances surrounding her death. The family was informed of the tragedy a day after it occurred and has since been searching for the whereabouts of the body.

A relative, who requested anonymity, shared that the company initially alerted the police, and Anita’s mother was subsequently informed at the police station. However, the family has encountered difficulties in locating the body. They were informed that it was at the Marina morgue, then the Ikorodu morgue, and finally at the Task Force in Oshodi, where they were told that the driver, who had the means of identifying the corpse, was unavailable.

The family’s frustration has grown due to the lack of clear information, leading to suspicions about the true cause of Anita’s death. The family is primarily concerned with receiving accurate information and understanding what led to the demise of their healthy daughter.

Efforts to obtain a statement from the eatery’s management were unsuccessful. However, an anonymous staff member mentioned that the incident was a tragic occurrence, and Anita collapsed while hanging her clothes. She was rushed to two hospitals but was pronounced dead at the second facility.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hudenyi, confirmed that two staff members of the eatery have been arrested. The case was initially reported at the Festac Division and has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba. The investigative team visited KFC to review the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage as part of their ongoing investigation.
