Atiku Accuses Tinubu of Manipulating System, Suppressing Opposition

By  Milcah  Tanimu

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has once again criticized President Bola Tinubu, alleging that his administration is using state institutions to silence opposition voices.

In a statement on social media, Atiku referenced the recent arrest of Professor Usman Yusuf, a prominent social critic. He called the detention politically motivated, arguing that the charges against Yusuf predate Tinubu’s tenure but are now being enforced for political reasons.

Atiku further accused Tinubu’s government of shielding allies accused of corruption while targeting opposition figures. “It is absurd that while the administration shelters those under investigation, it exploits state institutions to stifle dissent under the false pretense of fighting corruption,” he said.

He added that Tinubu is not committed to battling corruption but is instead waging a political war against opponents.

Atiku’s statement follows his earlier condemnation of the arrest of activist Omoyele Sowore, who was detained after responding to a police invitation. Sowore, now released on bail, faces charges including cyberstalking.

These developments add to growing concerns about political repression under Tinubu’s administration.
